The book needs to be read to be understood but here are 10 takeaways that I hope will encourage you to dig deeper.
#1- You must be self-centered but not in the way you interpret the word. Self-centered meaning you are supposed to mind your own business. Other people’s emotions towards you is none of your business. Differentiating Life Tasks
#2- Your past doesn’t have any effect on you. It is the meaning that you put to your past that affects you.
#3- People can change but they don’t because it’s inconvenient, hard, or scary.
#4- Happiness is the feeling of contribution. The contribution doesn’t have to be visible, it doesn’t have to be recognized. Wanting recognition is a trap. What if there are 10 people with different standards, you pledge allegiance to each
#5- The fear of getting disliked we need to let go of. That’s how we can be happy.
#6- Weaknesses can be a strength. Most people use their misery to gain power. “You don’t know how I feel.” “You don’t know my history.” The most powerful person in the room is the most helpless one.
#7- Praising is condescending. It’s better to emphasize their contribution.
#8- Inferiority complex is superiority complex.
#9- The world will look like how you want to see it. If you think your boyfriend is cheating on you, you will see evidence. If you think that an artist is pretty, you will find her pretty.
