FIFTY FIFTY is officially back in the spotlight. On May 4, their agency ATTRAKT confirmed the group will release a new album in early June — their first full comeback in roughly seven months since dropping the digital single Too Much Part 1 last November.
But that’s not all. The quintet is expanding into acting with a high-profile short-form drama that cleverly ties directly into their musical universe.
Lights, Camera, Exorcism: FIFTY FIFTY Stars in ‘After-School Exorcism Club’
The group has been cast as the leads in After-School Exorcism Club, a teen occult comedy set to premiere this May on the platform KITS. The series follows five high school girls who form an unlikely team to banish a mischievous spirit haunting their school — a storyline deeply connected to the lore of FIFTY FIFTY’s albums.
Each member steps into a distinct role that plays to her strengths:
- Keena as Na Jin Shim, the “Exorcism Ace” — bottom of the class academically but gifted with the ability to see ghosts.
- Chanelle Moon as Wang So Ra, the athletic “shield” of the club.
- Yewon as Choi Woo Soo, the top-ranked perfectionist.
- Hana as Geum Jo Yeon, the quirky, lovable member of the school’s broadcasting club.
- Athena as Jo A Young, the occult-obsessed daughter of a prominent local family.
The drama is directed by Jung Joo, whose resume includes BTOB’s “The Winter’s Tale,” Melomance’s “Greed,” and the OST “Heartbeat” for the mobile game BTS World. The blend of supernatural fun, teen dynamics, and sharp scripting positions After-School Exorcism Club as more than just a side project — it’s a strategic extension of FIFTY FIFTY’s growing IP.
This move reflects a broader trend among girl groups: building immersive universes that let fans dive deeper into the world beyond the music. If executed well, it could become a breakout hit for the format.
Hana Takes Temporary Hiatus for Health Reasons
The comeback won’t be at full strength right away. Member Hana will sit out group activities for the time being to focus on recovery. On March 9, ATTRAKT released the following statement:
“Hana has recently visited the hospital due to ongoing health concerns and, following medical examination, has been advised… to require sufficient rest and stability. After careful discussion with Hana and the members, it has been decided that she will temporarily suspend her activities… Starting today, FIFTY FIFTY will continue activities as a four-member group. Our company will prioritize the artist’s health and do our utmost to support her full recovery.”
The agency emphasized that fan understanding and the member’s well-being come first.
Building on U.S. Radio Breakthrough
FIFTY FIFTY enters this new chapter with proven international traction. Their hip-hop track “Skittlez” from Too Much Part 1 cracked the Mediabase Top 40 radio chart in North America, peaking at No. 38 and maintaining strong rotation for months. It marked their most significant U.S. radio success since the global smash “Cupid,” signaling renewed momentum stateside.
What’s Next for FIFTY FIFTY
With a drama dropping this month, a full-group comeback in June, and a solid U.S. radio foothold, FIFTY FIFTY is entering one of its most dynamic eras yet. TWENYs (and new listeners) can expect deeper storytelling, bolder concepts, and continued genre experimentation.
After navigating challenges with resilience and grace, the group feels poised for its biggest chapter yet. For a group that’s already captured hearts worldwide, this could be the moment they truly solidify their place among K-pop’s next generation of global stars.
Stay tuned — the magic is clearly still unfolding.
